CGRU SOUTHCOM discusses leadership with top SOUTHCOM reserve of•cer U.S. Southern Command Deputy Commander for Mobilization and Reserve Affairs Maj. Gen. Robert Branyon, accompanied by Sgt. Maj. Manuel Blas, visited the members of Coast Guard Reserve Unit SOUTHCOM April 13, 2019, as part of their all- hands weekend. Branyon's career has been unique in that he has held several (normally full-time) senior leadership positions as a National Guard member. He is also a pilot for Delta Airlines. He spoke on a wide variety of topics including leadership, service and the balance of military, civilian and family responsibilities. Chief Petty Of cer Georgina Smith, who operates a custom cake business, presented Branyon with a special surprise to honor his upcoming retirement after almost 37 years of service.
