Reserve and began a career with the FDNY. He eventually joined Rescue 5 Company, the FDNY's special operations unit based on Staten Island. He became a member within five years, whereas, it takes most firefighters upwards of 10 years to earn a spot with the elite group. He continued his Coast Guard service as a Reserve member of Station New York where he found enjoyment in teaching skills to new shipmates and helped mold them into well- rounded Coast Guardsmen. Now, future Coast Guard members will be reminded of the sacrifices and contributions he made while serving in two renowned organizations. His uniforms from the Coast Guard and FDNY, as well as a painted portrait of Palazzo from boot camp, greet anyone who enters the multi-purpose, MK1 Jeff Palazzo Hall.
